Frequently Asked Questions about ‘Tape to MP3 Black/Silver case ’

NOTICE 9-Nov-2011

We are aware that a small number of users are experiencing a problem with the software. The program loads correctly but when you attempt to run it, the screen display is not complete and the right side of the window is missing. This problem can occur on all operating systems. Additionally recent Microsoft Windows Updates (across all versions) have created an incompatibility problem between the cassette software and the configuration of the individual PC being used. An error message may show that suggests the USB device is not connected.

Our software team has investigated the issue and we regret are unable provide a guaranteed solution at this time. Please see the answer below to the FAQ Which Operating System is it compatible with?. Should this occur within 30 days of your purchase please return the converter via Royal Mail (postage costs about £2.50) and we will refund the original purchase cost plus the Royal Mail return postage . We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Q. Why doesn't the recording wave in the T2>MP3 converter screen move?

A. The volume dial on the side of the player may be set to minimum, try turning it to maximum.

A. The Cassettemate isn't connected. Check the USB wire. The Cassettemate icon should appear in the bottom right Icon Tray. If it has a red cross through it please read the notes dated 30-Nov-10 at the top of this page.

Q. Where is the Audio Tab in Sound and Audio Properties screen?

A. It varies by operating system but is generally available via a right click on the volume icon in a Windows XP / Vista taskbar or the Control Panel.

Q. It appears to record but why can't I hear any sound when I play it back on my PC?

A. You can listen to the recorded music AFTER the T2>MP3 player is unplugged from the PC i.e. when the music has finished recording. If you want to listen to the music whilst recording, use earphones or headsets (not supplied) plugged into the T2>MP3 converter.

A. Does your sound card play the format you used when recording i.e. you recorded it as mp3 format but your PC is only set to play wav files? Change the format to suit.

A. Check in the Sound and Audio Devices Properties screen what default devices are set. It was only the Sound recording option that should have been changed when the software was installed. The top option Sound playback option should be your original device type set on the PC prior to installing the CassetteMate. If you have more than one device showing in the drop down box try changing it to the other device type.

Q. What types of tape can I convert?

A. Normal or Chrome format tapes of 45, 60, 90 or 120 minutes in length. Certain types of super chrome tapes may not transfer correctly. Tapes must have been recorded at Normal speed only.

Q. The speed of the recording is too fast / too slow?

A. The T2>MP3 player plays at the standard cassette speed only. Tapes must have been recorded at normal speed only. It does not support original recordings made in long-play mode. A. Over time cassette tape can stretch or become tight on the reel. Try using the fast forward / rewind facility to move the tape from one reel to the other and then back again. This may loosen the tape prior to recording.

Q. A tape is in the player, why doesn?t it turn when I press play?

A. Your USB port might not be able to output sufficient power, try putting batteries in the player.

A. Has it reached the end of the tape? Change the direction switch (loop symbol) on the top of the player or open the player and turn the cassette over.

Q. How can I split individual tracks into separate files?

A. Select the Auto Divide Record with mute option as Divide Record Type.

Q. Why isn?t the playback quality as good as I normally get on my PC?

A. The quality of the original tape/sound recording is a key factor in the transfer process. Try recording with different settings on your Sound and Audio device card and / or the volume control on the side of the player.

Q. I want to use it as a portable tape player, where do I put the batteries?

A. Two AA type batteries fit inside the player under the cassette.

Q. I have an error message "Run Time Error"

A. Restart the software.

Q. I need additional device drivers for my PC where can I get them?

A. A variety of drivers can be downloaded from audacity.sourceforge.net/download

Q. I want to edit sound files what software can I use?

A. Audacity software provides some functionality to edit files and change recording quality e.g. remove static, hiss, or hum. More details can found at audacity.sourceforge.net/about/features

Q. Can I use the T2>MP3 Tape to MP3 / PC Converter with iTunes?

A. Once you have converted your tape to MP3 format and saved to your PC it can be imported to an iTunes library, uploaded to MP3 players or burned onto CD. This may require additional software or equipment.

Q. I want to save my files onto a CD, what format do I need to save/write/burn the files in?

A. This depends on your CD player but writing/burning the CD as an audio disk is an option. To burn a CD you will need a suitable disc drive and software, this is not included with the T2>MP3 converter.

Q. I have output my files to a CD but they do not play.

A. The default setting for the T2>MP3 convector is to save in MP3 format. Either change the setting in our CassetteMate software (it?s in the Tool option) and save them as WAV or WMA. Alternatively your CD writing software may have an option to convert them as the CD is being written.

Q. Where are my files saved?

A. This depends on your operating system but typically they save in the directory My Documents/CassetteMate Recorded Files. You can play them directly from there.

A. The Music Icon screen Record Play window is empty. Look in the directory My Documents/CassetteMate Recorded Files.

A. After clicking the "Record" button, to play music during recording, press the "STOP" Button first then press the Music Icon. If you press the Music Icon first, only an empty window will show.
