The screen saver option turns the light off after a few seconds. Locking the key pad is an alternative.

SMS delivery reports?
Still an excellent phone after quite a few months use. We used to be able to set our old phones to automatically send us back SMS delivery reports. Is this possible with the Maxi-Key? Apparently you can prefix each message with 0 but this is a bit clunky!

Manual
Ordered 2 of these phones, the bill said 2 but only 1 arrived Phoned Aspect another on the way. When I opened the parcel NO instructions, it looks OK for wife who has poor eyesight BUT how do you set it up? without instructions. I sent email yesterday to customer services to send some intructions and awaiting reply.

Deleting a single contact from sim card
I cannot work out how to delete one contact from the sim card. When trying it only gives you the option to delete all. Otherwise a very good phone for the partially sighted.

Single contact can be deleted by finding the contact in the Phonebook, pressing Ok, use the down arrow to find Delete, press Ok. This will remove a single contact.

text messages
an excellent phone - the only thing I have foun d wrong is that when I receive a text message I cant find a way to save it (my old phone had an archive section). is there any way of saving an invomcing text message. That apart, the phone is suberb - nothing unnecessary on it and it makes my life so much simpler

SOS Button
All in all an excellent phone, howver, I was testing the SOS feature to see if it sent a message to my own mobile. It did, but I couldnt turn the alarm off, and cant find anything in the manual. Took the battery out for a few seconds! How do you turn the alarm off?

Once activated the alarm stays on until a call is answered. On later models (K3 series) the button has been changed to a switch. Returning the switch to the off position will stop the alarm.

Excellent once we had it set up
Really impressed with this. Two grandchildren on seeing it immediately said Cool!. Very easy to use and fantastic value.
One question: if a call fails it gives a load BEEP, and if you have incautiously put it to your ear its painfully loud. Is there a way to ask it kindly not to do this - or to do it quieter?

Problems with maxi-key phone
REVIEW 1 I brought this phone for my wife who is 70 and she is having trouble replying to in comming texts messages as it seems you have to go back into phone book to reply.
you cannot reply direct from in comming text message,as she can do on her previous phone,so therefore she has gone back to her old phone,as is much eaiser to use than the maxi-key.
the manual does not explain replying to texts.
the manual is terrible and does not cover many of facilities of phone.
will not be using phone it is put away in draw.
REVIEW 2 my wife has played with the texting and is still having problems,so she is going back to her previous phone and we are returning the phone as not suitable for my wife who uses a mobile mainly for texts only.
i would like to state that this is a very nice phone and is exceptionally good value and has many functions which we like,but not friendly text function,which is my own persional opinion

We talked them through the texting option. As mentioned in our other review responses we are continually rewording the instructions we provide and will look at how texting can be better described.

We offered a full refund in accordance with our money back guarantee he agreed that some perseverance was required to use a new phone and that he was now getting to grips with it. He wanted to keep the phone.
The radio works better with the earpiece fitted as this acts as an aerial.

How do I change the FM station?
Great little phone and good instructions, except that I cant work out how to change the FM station. Would appreciate some help. Is it possible to store a number of different stations, if so how? thanks

The radio function scans looking for strong signals and then allows you to save them. The radio works better when a earphone is used.

Can't find out how to successfully get my balance from my SIM provider - I need to dial *#1345# and the phone wont do it.

We rang Mr Hewitt and he confirmed it was an ASDA Mobile SIM he was using.
As our phones are SIM free (not locked to a single supplier) some special numbers are not accessible. Dailling the ASDA customer service number 2732 will give you the balance.
Mr Hewitt thanked us for our prompt response and the offer to send him a new expanded manual which will include this extra information.

Alarm instructions
The phone is very good and does what it says on the packet. However, the user instructions are rubbish. For instance, how do you actually set the alarm - there are no instructions - please email instructions or tell me where I can find a comprehensive user manual on line

From Mid April we have included an A5 quick start instruction guide with all our Maxi-Key big button mobile phones which gives information about the setup required for the phones, this will simplify the set up considerably.
We also have a large print set of instructions available on request. These are written and produced here in the UK and are regularly updated. They include answers to the common questions we have received from customers ringing our call centre or who have left a review (e.g. Mr Campbell and others).

Can you help me solve a query with this phone i have recently bought. Ive somehow changed the language settings to a foreign language and dont know how to get back to English. You will see ‘On’ in front of you. Press the directional arrow up until you see ‘Off’. Press the Green button.
The phone will show ‘Done’. The talking clock has now been turned off.

The time is set in the SETTINGS / PHONE SETUP menu.
From the screen showing the date, time, battery level and signal level, press the directional arrow up until you see ‘Settings’. Press the Green button.
You will see ‘Phone setup’ on the screen. Press the Green button.
Press the directional arrow down until you see ‘Time and date’. Press the Green button.
You will see ‘Phone setup’ at the top of the screen and ‘User profiles’ in the bottom left hand corner. Press the directional arrow down until you see ‘Set time/date’. Press the Green button.
You will see ‘Time and date’ at the top of the screen and ‘Set home city’ in the bottom left hand corner. Press the directional arrow down until you see ‘Set time/date’. Press the Green button.
You will now see ‘HH:MM’ at the top of the screen and ’00:00’ in the bottom left hand corner. Press the Green button to edit the time.
Press the number keys to input the time (it is a 24 hour clock) and then press the Green button. The phone will show ‘done’ on the screen and will take you back to the screen with ‘Time and date’ at the top and ‘Set time/date’ in the bottom left hand corner. You have now successfully altered the time on the phone.
Press the Green button to continue editing the date.
Press the directional arrow down until you see ‘DD/MM/YYYY’ at the top of the screen and ‘01/01/2010’ in the bottom left hand corner. Press the Green button.
Press the number keys to input the date (just type 11 for the year 2011). Press the Green button. The phone will show ‘done’ on the screen and will take you back to the screen with ‘Time and date’ at the top and ‘Set time/date’ in the bottom left hand corner. You have now successfully altered the date on the phone.

Tryed my Orange sim card and it keeps saying insert sim?? What network does this phone accept?

It works on any standard UK 2nd generation (2G) mobile network including Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, O2, Asda, Tesco, Virgin and other reputable service providers. It does not work on the 3 (Three) network, Lycamobile or other 3rd generation (3G) only networks. It also works on 2G networks around Europe.
You can also try removing the SIM card, gently wipe it with a soft cloth and try again. If you are still having a problem please call us on 0844 863 0064.

Phone is very good.. however
My mother in law aged 90 purchased a Maxi-Key phone and asked me to set it up for her. The phone is very good and is ideal for older people to use. However, the instructions are abysmal. How old people with failing eyesight can possibly read the instructions is beyond me. At my age, I had to resort to a magnifying glass ! Having taken the time to read the instructions, I found them next to useless. I had to spend ages fiddling about with the various options on the phone to get the things she required set up properly. The current instruction book, if you can call it that, should be put on a bonfire and a new instruction book shoul be provided with easy to follow examples showing step by step what you need to do for example to set up new contacts, set up speed dialling, delete messages etc. Such a pity the instructions are so poor as the phone is so good.

Hourly Time Reminders
althgough the phone can make and receive calls, the instruction sheet is very poor and following instructions does not obtain the desired effects ie. phonebook, muting of speaking numbers & of the irritating hourly time reminders.
